Created by experienced educators, native to Chisago Lakes, Project Wild Rooted offers hands-on, experiential, nature based learning for kids at its local outdoor campuses.
“Our mission at Project Wild Rooted,” state Laura and Michelle, “is to create rich experiences, spark life-long learners and create tomorrow’s innovators who have a deep appreciation for the natural world around them. We want our community of children to gain confidence and knowledge learning skills while using tools for constructing and creating.”
In 2022, Project Wild Rooted submitted the winning pitch to Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation’s Big Idea Competition, earning $10,000 to implement their Equity in Outdoor Education program. With the funds, Project Wild Rooted will, over several years, host field trips at no charge for 1st and 2nd graders enrolled within Independent School District #2144.
“The program will promote connections to the outdoors, environmental stewardship, critical thinking and problem solving. Project Wild Rooted will not only expose youth to the world around them, it will do so in a fun, engaging way,” say the founders. “Teachers seldom know the far-reaching positive impact we have on a student’s life; teaching is like planting a tree, and having to wait years to see the effects of our nurturing.” This grant will “be fueling a movement to renew a sense of belonging, confidence, and stewardship to our community.”
