The mission of this new and rapidly growing nonprofit: Chisago Lakes Good Neighbors Club, through its resources and diverse members, contributes to the well-being of our communities through random acts of kindness.
“Members of the organization,” they state, “are well connected to the community and provide leadership, networking, organizational and communication skills. We are a highly motivated group that has proven our ability to mobilize quickly, efficiently, and effectively.” The club has hosted a variety of events year round, including park clean up, food drives and holiday caroling.
Acts of Kindness
Responding to inquiries about their work, club members soon realized the need for “acts of kindness” to bridge a gap in services to the senior population, especially to those in their homes. Wishing to provide simple assistance and relieve isolation, the Chisago Lakes Good Neighbors Club conceived of the Adopt-a-Grandparent Program, earning a $6000 grant in the 2022 Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation Big Idea Competition.
“There are many programs in our community that provide services and support, but no one size fits all,” states their proposal. Adopt-a-Grandparent will activate volunteers to build relationships, make safe and well checks, perform chores and errands, recognize birthdays, and nurture community connectivity, benefiting seniors and volunteers alike.
